How would you respond to those who feel overwhelmed by bad news?

I would validate that things can seem overwhelming at times. Then I would talk to them about their skills and interest so the adolescent could see how he/she could affect change. We could talk about how all their positive traits could help people and I would help them understand that while they can only control their actions, each action is a step toward growth and well-being.

What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom?

Knowledge is the nuts and bolts of something - the facts, whereas wisdom reflects the lessons learned throughout life.

What is happiness?

Happiness is definitely a worthwhile pursuit. For me, the foundation of happiness is taking care of myself. This means exercising on a regular basis and eating well. When I do those two things, I am in a better frame of mind, can handle stress a lot better, and am more open to goodness. I find that my foundation has to be sound before I can fully receive goodness in other forms.

When was the last time you felt at peace?

I feel at peace often, but I especially felt whole and loved on Father's Day. I spent the weekend with my parents and we had a cookout, worked on home repairs together, and I took a motorcycle ride with my dad. I felt so whole because in the moments of painting trim for their bathroom, grocery shopping with stepmom, and helping cook, I knew we were creating memories and increasing our bond. Every moment together is a gift to me and I make sure they know I feel that way. I felt completely loved and valued and I want to forever give that back to them. By sharing, we connect, and in those moments they helped me as much as I helped them.

As we all know there are great atrocities in our world, but it is essential for us to be at peace with ourselves and our place in life so we can be the most effective helpers for everyone else. Internal reflection and peace allows me to see the bigger picture and simultaneously focus on each individual I encounter.

P.S. I am new to Gaia and am enjoying reading everyone's responses!

What would you like all fathers to know?

I would like all fathers to know they are the biggest example for their daughters of how women should be treated. I am so blessed that my father has shown me unconditional love and I have chosen a partner who exhibits all of my dad's finest qualities: integrity, kindness, generosity, and compassion. I spent Father's Day with my dad on his motorcycle and loved every second of it :) Every Mother's Day and Father's Day with my parents is a gift.
